The Revival Of Indian Textiles: A Step Forward

The one question everyone has on their minds once fashion week wraps up is…Whats trending in India??

Well, I’m finally proud and relieved that the fashion industries support to Indian weaves and textiles has finally been brought to the spotlight .

Having spent  several years during my interim as a designer, I worked closely with benarasi weavers till the modern fad took over killing tradition and made in India .  Which is why  a special mention is due to Shaina NC, who collaborated with The Bhau daji laud museum in Mumbai and put up a fabulous exhibition curated  with several Indian designers showcasing dresses using Paithani , brocades and rich indian textiles.

The Winter/ Festive week, which ended yesterday, supported this cause by dedicating a textile day where several designers showcased a rich mix of Indo-Westerns.

-Andhra-based designer Gaurang Shah revived the Kanjeevaram, Khadi, Uppada, and highlighted embroideries such as zardosi, gotta, chikankari.

Neeta Lulla showcased the modern day bride every so beautifully, with the stunning Nishka Lulla as showstopper and reinterpreted the classic bengali bride

-Anita Dongre ended day 2 at LFW with her ‘Grassroot’ collection that was dedicated to reviving traditional craftsmanship such as Ahir embroidery from Gujarat, and ikat from Karnataka and Hyderabad amidst others.
