De-coding The Black Tie Dress Code: Men’s Edit

The ominous but alluring “Black Tie” invitation arrives at your door. Do you wear a short dress or a long gown? The words ‘black tie’ strike equal amounts of excitement and fear. Excitement that for the opportunity to dress up, fear that a. there is nothing to wear, and b. the outfit will be completely wrong. Men often face a similar dilemma. Bow tie or tie? Waistcoat or no waistcoat?

Here are a few formal wear etiquette tips to keep in mind for your next black tie gala or wedding.

I. WHITE TIE

“I’m so fancy.”

Men, you will need a black dress coat (tail coat) & matching trousers, wing-collared shirts with shirt studs and cuff-links, a white piqué waistcoat and a white bow tie. Pair this with black patent-leather or calfskin evening pumps and black silk socks.

II. BLACK TIE

“Bond, James Bond.”

There’s really nothing as sophisticated as a man in classic black tie. He should wear a dinner aka tuxedo jacket with matching trousers, bow tie, and cummerbund or waist-coast. Pair this outfit with black patent-leather or calfskin pumps or laced oxfords.

III. BLACK TIE OPTIONAL

“Play it safe.”

A dark suit with a conservative tie and dark shoes or a tuxedo if you’re feeling particularly Bond-esque!

Make sure to never get it wrong from now on. And remember Oscar Wilde’s great words, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated”.

Fashion Trends to Carry Forward in 2017

A New Year brings new trends that we are ready to experiment with, but there are few the fashion world is not ready to let-go of just yet. Keep reading to find out what to carry forward in 2017!

#1: The Bomber Jacket
Although some may think the bomber jacket reached its peak in 2016 – it’s definitely here to stay. From runway to celebrities, it’s all about the jacket.

#2: Bare Shoulder
Bare shoulders dominated the fashion scene this year, so much so that Indian designers incorporated the look in traditional ensembles. Pre-collections from Roland Mouret, Balmain and House of Holland featured shoulder baring styles and designers are predicted to carry this trend into SS17.

They say fashion repeats itself – the flared denim look has been seen sparingly in 2016. However, it’s going to make a comeback in summer 2017. The acceptance has been slow – but you should keep an eye out for this trend.

#4: Patchwork
From Coach to Gucci to Louis Vuitton – everybody has been enjoying the patchwork trend. A high street fad has been be adopted by luxury brands and is predicted to be seen a lot in 2017.

#5: Sequin
Who said you can’t wear sequin in summer? The Resort 2017 look books are all about the sequin.

#6: Crossbody
A crossbody may not be the most flattering bag in fashion history but it made quite the statement on the Chanel runway. It’s androgynous and functional – we are definitely taking it to 2017.
